This award allows women medical students, general surgery residents and cardiothoracic surgery residents enrolled at an accredited institution, with an interest in cardiothoracic surgery, the opportunity to attend the STS Annual Meeting, and to be mentored throughout the meeting by a WTS/STS member. In addition, women postdoctoral candidates in a research or other gap year who have graduated medical school and are interested in cardiothoracic surgery are eligible to apply.
The application process for the 2025 WTS Scholarship Program will open on September 23, 2024.

The WTS scholarship program has awarded over 100 scholarships since its inception in 2005. In awarding this annual WTS scholarship, Women in Thoracic Surgery is fulfilling one of its stated missions “to enhance the education of women thoracic surgeons.”

Award
The scholarship covers meeting registration fees and a three-night stay at an STS-designated hotel. In addition, the scholarship includes up to $700 to cover air travel (one round-trip economy class airfare), ground transportation (shuttle, taxi, and Uber/Lyft), and meals (not already provided by WTS/STS).
Award Payout
Following the STS Annual Meeting, up to $700 in travel and meal expenses will be reimbursed upon completion of a post-meeting survey, receipt of an expense reimbursement form, and associated receipts.
