“As chief of cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Minnesota, I strive to create a team and hospital system that delivers excellence and innovation with every patient encounter. I am driven to care for cardiothoracic patients with an excellence that justifies their trust. The bravery of patients who face open heart surgery inspires me to deliver my very best.”

Dr. Rose Kelly is the C. Walton and Richard C. Lillehei Professor and Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Minnesota, as well as the Surgical Director of the Lung Transplantation Program.  She is well respected by patients, peers, and trainees, for her talent that is accompanied by strength and humility.  She leads a full life in and outside of the operating room, with horse riding one of her passions.

As described by Dr. Jessica Donington:

“Rose is one of the small handful of section chief in cardiothoracic surgery in the country. She is incredibly accomplished, but quiet and unassuming. I think she is a great role model for residents and students.”
