In conjunction with Women in Thoracic Surgery (WTS), this annual award, provided and administered by The Thoracic Surgery Foundation (TSF), will allow a clinically established woman thoracic surgeon to travel to another institution for the purpose of learning a new skill or technology. With a burgeoning field of surgical technology, many surgeons seek an opportunity to gain new experiences and return home with innovations and collaborations. As she was the consummate educator, the leaders of both TSF and WTS deem it most appropriate to establish this initiative in honor of Carolyn E. Reed.
The award celebrates those who have achieved excellence in clinical practice and demonstrate integrity, leadership, creativity, and expertise in carrying out day-to-day duties and supporting the specialty. The award is a collaboration between The Society of Thoracic Surgeons and Women in Thoracic Surgery. Details can be found on the sts.org website.
