Carolyn E. Reed Traveling Fellowship

Carolyn E. Reed, MD

Dr. Carolyn Elaine Reed passed peacefully on Nov. 16, 2012. Dr. Reed was the first woman chair of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, past President of the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, Treasurer of Women in Thoracic Surgery, and Executive Council Member and Treasurer of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons. A teacher, researcher, and leader, Dr. Reed was an amazing inspiration to cardiothoracic surgeons and trainees. She will be sorely missed. Click here to view Dr. Reed’s obituary. In honor of Dr. Reed’s innumerable contributions to our field, to the lives of our patients, and to the lives of all who knew her, please consider making a donation to the TSF Carolyn E. Reed Traveling Fellowship.

This annual award, provided and administered by TSF, will allow a clinically established woman thoracic surgeon to travel to another institution for the purpose of learning a new skill or technology. With a burgeoning field of surgical technology, many surgeons seek an opportunity to gain new experiences and return home with innovations and collaborations. As she was the consummate educator, the leaders of both TSF and WTS deem it most appropriate to establish this initiative in honor of Carolyn E. Reed.

There are several ways that you can contribute to the Carolyn E. Reed Traveling Fellowship:

  • Make a credit card donation online.
  • Mail a check, made payable and addressed to TSF, to 633 North Saint Clair Street, 21st Floor, Chicago, IL 60611. Please note the Carolyn E. Reed Fellowship in the memo section of your check.

Please join us in celebrating Carolyn’s life and dedication to education and innovation. We thank you in advance for your support!

WTS and TSF would like to recognize and thank contributors who have given $5,000 or more to the Carolyn E. Reed Traveling Fellowship:
