University of Rochester: Esophageal Research Opportunity
Three fully-funded one- or two-year research opportunities available in the Division of Thoracic/Foregut Surgery at the University of Rochester. Fellows may focus on clinical or translational research. 1. Clinical fellows will become proficient at conducting and interpreting esophageal diagnostic studies including high resolution manometry, Bravo capsule and impedance pH studies in the surgical Esophageal Diagnostic Lab. Research will also involve participation in clinical trials of novel tests and treatments for benign disease including Torax, Medigus and ResTech, and for (pre)malignant disease including Barrx, cryotherapy and endoscopic resection (EMR). 2. Translational research fellows will work in the laboratory of Tony E. Godfrey, Ph.D., whose NIH-funded research focuses on the molecular pathogenesis of Barrett’s esophagus and the integromics of esophageal adenocarcinoma. Prior lab experience not required. Grant writing opportunities a given. Participation in our annual Hawaii esophageal course and presentation at national and international thoracic meetings expected. Lung Cancer Research Fellowship
The Division of Thoracic and Foregut Surgery at the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY announces a 1-2 year clinical research fellowship starting in 2009, for general surgical residents or medical students interested in thoracic surgery and lung cancer. The goal is to provide interest and research opportunity for trainees interested in lung cancer research, state-of-the-art clinical management of thoracic surgery problems and translational research opportunities. The fellow will fully participate in all multidisciplinary thoracic oncology clinics and tumor boards. Our fellow is encouraged to complete two or three projects for presentation at national and international meetings such as The Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American Association for Thoracic Surgery, and the American College of Surgeons. University of Pittsburgh: Mini-Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Thoracic and Foregut Surgery
The goal of the mini-fellowship in minimally invasive thoracic and foregut surgery at the University of Pittsburgh is to provide a focused and concentrated 6-week to 3-month training experience under the direction of experienced surgeons for qualified surgeons who wish to begin a clinical program in minimally invasive thoracic and foregut surgery. Upon completion, the trainee should be able to perform specific minimally invasive thoracic and foregut operations safely and have a basic understanding of preoperative and postoperative management concepts.
